🚖 Drive from Dharamshala to Kareri Village

Distance: 26 km

Duration: Approx. 1 hour by taxi

Road: Fully accessible (direct road available now)

From Dharamshala, take a taxi to Kareri Village, the base point of the Kareri Lake Trek. Earlier the road access was limited, but now conveyance is easily available, making the journey smooth and comfortable.

Arrival at Kareri Village

On arrival at Kareri Village, meet the Trekngo representatives and trek guides. After a short rest and briefing session, begin your trek towards Kareri Lake.

🥾 Trek from Kareri Village to Kareri Lake

Trek Distance: Approx. 10 km

Duration: 7-8 hours

Difficulty: Moderate

Altitude: 9,650 ft

As you begin the Kareri Lake Trek, you will witness the backside views of the famous Triund and Indrahar Pass region in the Dhauladhar range.

The trail initially passes through:

Dense pine and oak forests

Flowing mountain stream (locally known as “Dhar”)

Wooden bridges and shepherd trails

For the first 3 hours, you walk alongside the refreshing stream, making this one of the most scenic forest treks near Dharamshala.

🌿 Boulder Zone & Alpine Meadows

After a steady ascent, you will cross a small boulder section followed by a beautiful open grassland with a flowing stream. This is a perfect spot for lunch and short relaxation.

After a 30-minute rest, continue trekking towards Kareri Lake. The trail becomes slightly rocky with small waterfalls appearing along the route. One side of the trail is covered with dense forest, while the other side opens to rocky mountain views.

By late afternoon, you will reach Kareri Lake, a crystal-clear high-altitude freshwater lake surrounded by the majestic Dhauladhar Range.

The alpine lake reflects the snow-covered peaks, creating one of the most picturesque camping experiences in Himachal Pradesh.

Wake up early at Kareri Lake (9,650 ft) and witness a breathtaking sunrise over the Dhauladhar Range. The clear alpine lake reflects the surrounding snow-covered peaks, making it one of the most scenic moments of the Kareri Lake Trek.

After breakfast at the campsite, begin your descent towards Kareri Village through dense pine forests and alongside the beautiful mountain stream.

The downhill trek is comfortable and takes around 4–5 hours. Reach Kareri Village by afternoon and proceed back to Dharamshala by taxi.
